Les polyph\u00e9nols poss\u00e8dent une grande vari\u00e9t\u00e9 d\u2019effets biologiques (antioxydants, anti-inflammatoires, antimutag\u00e8nes, antiprolif\u00e9ratifs ou antiangiog\u00e9niques) bien d\u00e9crits dans des \u00e9tudes pr\u00e9cliniques. Au cours des 10-15 derni\u00e8res ann\u00e9es, de nombreux essais cliniques ont montr\u00e9 que des polyph\u00e9nols, ou des aliments qui en contiennent, auraient quelques effets b\u00e9n\u00e9fiques sur les marqueurs des maladies cardiovasculaires et du diab\u00e8te ainsi que sur les fonctions cognitives. Les preuves s\u2019accumulent quant \u00e0 leur r\u00f4le dans la pr\u00e9vention de maladies chroniques majeures et du d\u00e9clin physique et mental associ\u00e9 au vieillissement.<\/p>\n<p>Dans ce num\u00e9ro, les trois articles discutent du r\u00f4le des polyph\u00e9nols dans la pr\u00e9vention primaire ou la r\u00e9cidive du cancer colorectal ainsi que dans la r\u00e9duction du taux de mortalit\u00e9 globale, dans les cohortes des \u00e9tudes EPIC et InCHIANTI. Tous les auteurs soulignent le r\u00f4le protecteur des polyph\u00e9nols contre le cancer colorectal et d\u2019autres maladies. Il est important de mener d\u2019autres \u00e9tudes prospectives en am\u00e9liorant leur m\u00e9thodologie afin de pouvoir \u00e9valuer l\u2019exposition \u00e0 plus de 500 polyph\u00e9nols largement r\u00e9pandus dans l\u2019alimentation.
