In January and February 2007, supported by a guide, in-depth interviews were conducted with 11 women and one man who were living in an agricultural community in Rio Branco do Sul, Southern Brazil. The interviewees were selected randomly from among the 20 ecological farming families in this municipality.<\/p>\n<p>RESULTS: Three analysis categories were identified: \u00ab\u00a0awareness of healthy eating\u00a0\u00bb; \u00ab\u00a0purchasing power\u00a0\u00bb and \u00ab\u00a0healthy land\u00a0\u00bb. The significance of healthy eating for the female farmers involved the idea that foods should be natural, without agricultural pesticides or manufactured chemical products. The daily routine should include abundant consumption of fruits, greens and other vegetables, in addition to the basic rice, beans and meat, and the composition of dishes should aim towards prevention of obesity and chronic-degenerative diseases.
