Parents&rsquo; socio-economic variables, age and education level and children&rsquo;s age were obtained by face-to-face interviews. The parental food intake was assessed using an FFQ and the children&rsquo;s food intake was assessed using two 24 h recalls.<\/p>\n<p>SUBJECTS: <\/p>\n<p>Children (n 366) aged 6-30 months and their parents.<\/p>\n<p>RESULTS: <\/p>\n<p>The hierarchical regression analysis indicated that parents&rsquo; age was positively associated with the intake of vegetables among children (&#946; = 0\u00b773, 95 % CI 0\u00b711, 1\u00b734), while parents&rsquo; educational level was positively associated with the intake of fats (&#946; = 3\u00b752, 95 % CI 0\u00b704, 7\u00b701) and negatively associated with the intake of beans (&#946; = -13\u00b798, 95 % CI -27\u00b794, -0\u00b703). The age of the children was positively associated with the intakes of meats and eggs (&#946; = 2\u00b788, 95 % CI 1\u00b755, 4\u00b722), sugars (&#946; = 5\u00b708, 95 % CI 1\u00b785, 8\u00b730) and coffee (&#946; = 1\u00b777, 95 % CI 0\u00b771, 2\u00b784), and negatively associated with the intake of vegetables (&#946; = -2\u00b712, 95 % CI -3\u00b720, -1\u00b705). The influence of parental food intake was observed for the food groups of breads, cereals and tubers (&#946; = 0\u00b706, 95 % CI 0\u00b7003, 0\u00b712), beans (&#946; = 0\u00b711, 95 % CI -0\u00b7003, 0\u00b722) and fruits (&#946; = 0\u00b710, 95 % CI 0\u00b703, 0\u00b716).
