There are several types of legislated information to guide consumers<\/strong>:<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Fruit and vegetable labelling<\/strong> : <br>European and French regulations require that the name, the <strong>country of origin<\/strong> (full name) and the price of the product (per kilo, per piece or per batch) be indicated in <strong>characters in the same font size.<\/strong> This information can appear either on a l<strong>abel on the product<\/strong>, or on <strong>a nearby sign in a noticeable place<\/strong>, with the information legibly displayed.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Signs of identification of quality and origin<\/strong> (SIQO) <br>SIQO are <strong>official labels regulated by the French or European authorities<\/strong>, guaranteeing <strong>specific characteristics <\/strong>to consumers. As set by the Sustainable Development Goals, the equation we need to solve is ensuring consumer access to safe, nutritious food, improving the remuneration of farmers and food chain players, while preserving natural resources and mitigating climate change (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.sciencedirect.com\/science\/article\/pii\/S0308521X21001797#bb0830\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">UN General Assembly, 2015<\/a>). To face this challenge, <strong>the need to transition towards more inclusive, resilient and sustainable food systems is clear<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>To this end, many stakeholders see the <strong>reterritorialization of food systems<\/strong> as one of the solutions to launch (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.sciencedirect.com\/science\/article\/pii\/S0301479723025574?via%3Dihub#bib2\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Altieri and Nicholls, 2020<\/a>). The role that local food systems may play in this transition is increasingly drawing the attention of the general public, policy-makers and researchers, especially in high-income countries (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.sciencedirect.com\/science\/article\/pii\/S0308521X21001797#bb0215\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">De Schutter, 2017<\/a>). <strong>Two recent crises<\/strong> - the Covid-19 pandemic and the conflict in Ukraine \u2013 have indeed disrupted supply chains and highlighted the need for governments to consider their food sovereignty and take action to guarantee it.<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>Synthesizing 3 recent publications, the September issue of Equation Nutrition sheds<strong> light on the obstacles and levers to the reterritorialisation of food systems and the opportunities it presents.<\/strong><\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>The first article (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.sciencedirect.com\/science\/article\/pii\/S0308521X21001797\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Enthoven and Van den Broeck, 2021<\/a>) <strong>reviewed two decades of research on local food systems<\/strong> to determine if the benefits associated to focal food systems are scientifically supported or not. This work concludes that the <strong>local food systems are not inherently <\/strong>positive and that thei<strong>r impact highly depends on the type of supply chain under assessment, with important differences across product types and countries.<\/strong> The authors also point out the need for further research on this subject.<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>The second article (<a href=\"https:\/\/journals.openedition.org\/geocarrefour\/20809\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Mundler &amp; Boulianne 2022<\/a>) examined the <strong>challenges and obstacles to the reterritorialisation of food production in the region of Quebec<\/strong> (Canada). This work shows that the <strong>local of food production in Quebec comes up against a number of organisational, socio-technical, cultural and cognitive obstacles<\/strong>, which leave little room for territorial planning and <strong>limit local products to remaining niche<\/strong> products.<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>The third article (<a href=\"https:\/\/dx.doi.org\/10.1007\/s10806-022-09880-9\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Sanz Sanz, 2022<\/a>) examined <strong>how the city of Avignon<\/strong> (France) <strong>took a step toward transition to local fresh food procurement for public schools. <\/strong>It describes the <strong>transformation of associated practices<\/strong>, focusing on the <strong>motivations of municipal staff<\/strong>.
